STOP THE VALENTINES PAY MASSACRE STUC Support for Services Directive Protest
Trade unionists from all over Europe are gathering in Strasbourg today (Tuesday 14th February) to demonstrate against Brussels' plan to introduce the services directive and undermine minimum wages and health and safety laws in Europe. The Scottish TUC has held talks with Scottish MEPs urging them to vote against the directive at its first reading of today in the European Parliament.
STUC Deputy General Secretary Grahame Smith said "The concerns of the STUC that current terms of the directive, and in particular the `country of origin principle' will be detrimental to thousands of workers are shared by our trade union colleagues throughout the EU.
