STUC DEMANDS INSTITUTE OF DIRECTORS COME CLEAN ON SUPPOSED DRACONIAN LEGISLATION
The STUC has demanded the Institute of Directors come clean on their attacks on the Scottish Executive panel of experts recommendations and their views that this will lead to draconian legislation and massive differences in the position between Holyrood and Westminster. Speaking ahead of today's conference (Tuesday, 24 January 2006) in Edinburgh Ian Tasker, STUC Assistant Secretary for health and safety said,
"Some of the comments in the media over the week end attributable to the Institute of Directors are totally unfounded and their comments regarding alcohol contributing to the cause of more accidents than individuals acting in a corrupt or homicidal actions by individuals.
"These comments will extremely distressing to the families of the thousands of workers who have lost their lives through workplace accidents or ill health and we would ask the Institute to support these views with strong statistical evidence".
