STUC Welcomes Government Move to Update Sex Discrimination Laws.
The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) today welcomed moves by the UK Government to update sex discrimination laws.
Speaking today STUC Assistant Secretary Mary Senior said:
"It is most welcome that the UK Government is consulting on how to make sex discrimination laws clearer and simpler to understand and use for working people, and for employers. The STUC is pleased that the Government has listened to the views expressed on the complexity of the existing law, particularly in terms of pregnancy and maternity discrimination and sexual harassment".
Ms Senior added:
"The STUC will be looking in more detail at the consultation issued today, and responding in due course. However we will continue to call for the introduction of a Single Equality Act, to simplify anti- discrimination laws and make legislation fairer for all. A Single Act would simplify and equalise current anti-discrimination law, and make the law in this area fairer, easier to understand for individuals, employers, employees, customers, and service users and providers, and easier to enforce.
