STUC GENERAL SECRETARY TO MEET KURDISH HUNGER STRIKERS
STUC General Secretary Bill Speirs will this afternoon meet the three Kurdish men who are on hunger strike in protest at the British Government's refusal to grant them asylum.
He will meet them in Glasgow at 1pm today.
Bill Speirs said:
"We will be meeting David Blunkett later this month to discuss the Government's approach to asylum issues. The STUC has a record of support for the Kurdish people. On both counts, as well as at a basic human level, I decided that it was important that I meet these men who have been prepared to take desperate measures rather than be deported back to a very dangerous situation."
