SCOTTISH PENSIONERS FORUM 333 Woodlands Road GLASGOW G3 6NG
PRESS RELEASE EMBARGO: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PENSIONERS AWARDED A MISERABLE £100.00 A YEAR!!
The Scottish Pensioners' Forum today condemned the Government award of £100.00 a year rise in the pension as miserable.
Phyllis Herriot, Chairperson, challenged any politician to live on £77.45 a week or get enthusiastic about a rise in income of £100.00 a year / £1.92 a week.
Phyllis said:
"Money is available for war and for MP's pension improvements, but never for the older people of this country. If £102.10 a week (Minimum Income Guarantee) is affordable after means testing and form filling, why not spare us the indignity and offer it direct?
"The answer is to restore the link between the State Pension and earnings and stand by the 1997 Labour Manifesto which stated: - We believe that all pensioners should share fairly in the increasing prosperity of the nation."
