STUC to tell Governor that the Bank of England must act to support manufacturing jobs
Representatives of the STUC will tell the Governor of the Bank of England that action is required to support manufacturing jobs and economic growth in Scotland when they meet with him, in Glasgow, on 20 January 2003.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, STUC General Secretary, Bill Speirs, said:
"Last week's jobs and exports figures highlight the on-going difficulties being faced by Scotland's manufacturing sector.
"Representatives of the STUC will take the opportunity to reiterate the call for a cut in interest rates, to support jobs and growth in the face of the global downturn, when we meet with Sir Eddie George during his visit to Glasgow."
