SCOTTISH PENSIONERS' FORUM
PRESS RELEASE EMBARGO: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FLEXIBILITY IN RETIREMENT MUST BE TWO WAY
The Scottish Pensioners' Forum today warned that flexibility in retirement must not be to the advantage of the employer and should have the protection of legislation against age discrimination.
Phyllis Herriot, Chairperson of the Forum, also stated that the decision to work on beyond recognised retirement age, should not be based on poverty.
"People should have a genuine choice and not feel pressured to work on, simply because they are unable to cope on an inadequate state pension.
Jack Stewart, Chairperson of the Forum Publicity Committee, said -
"This is not only a problem for people approaching retirement age, but the youth of today, rather than planning for pension provision, are worrying about it.
