Delegates at the Scottish Trades Union Congress, currently meeting in Perth, have sent letters of condolence and solidarity to the American Consulate in Edinburgh and the Massachusetts Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), after the recent bombings at the Boston Marathon.

The messages read: “The people responsible for this terrorist action have mounted an appalling assault on ordinary working people and their families, whilst they were enjoying a day out at a family orientated public event. There can be no justification for the killing of innocent people and this attack is totally condemned by the Scottish Trades Union Congress.

“Please convey our deepest condolences to the families of those who have died or have been injured by this atrocity. Please also express our great admiration, solidarity and respect to those working in the emergency services, who helped and assisted the injured and bereaved, and who are continuing to deal with the situation. Their professional and courageous actions in responding to these horrific attacks are a great example to us all.

“Our thoughts at this sad time are with the people of Boston.”
