STUC Congress 2010 - General Secretary’s speech on the General Council’s statement on the economy

April 19th 2010

On the first morning of STUC Congress 2010, Grahame Smith, General Secretary delivered a speech to a General Council Statement on the economy.

In the speech Grahame emphasised that Congress brings together a ‘wealth of knowledge and experience from workplaces across the country’. He also stated that had the views of STUC Congress been listened to ‘the economy would not be in the perilous state it is today’.

The speech highlights both the myths that are dominating current economic discourse and measures required to build a new, fairer more sustainable economic and social model.
