On Tuesday 10 February the STUC and the Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee will hold a joint seminar, Economic and Social Models in Ireland, Norway and Sweden – a trade union perspective, in the Scottish Parliament. A programme is attached. The speakers are as follows:

· Paul Sweeney, Economic Adviser, Irish Congress of Trade Unions;

· Erica Sjolander, Economist, IF Metall, Sweden; and,

· Stein Reegard, Chief Economist, Norwegian LO trade union confederation.

Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary, said,

“This seminar provides space for a mature consideration of the lessons Scotland might learn from its near neighbours. All the speakers have been intimately involved in policy discourse, formulation and implementation at the highest level in their respective countries. It will of course be particularly valuable to hear first hand how each country is coping with the global economic downturn”.

The seminar will be Chaired by Lewis MacDonald MSP and will be attended by MSPs and senior Scottish trade unionists.
