STUC and Scottish Government publish joint communiqués
The STUC General Council has welcomed the outcome of their first meeting with the Scottish Government since the signing of the revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the STUC and the Government last month.
The two joint communiqués outlining shared aims and objectives – one on Skills Utilisation and the other on Poverty and Health Inequalities – were agreed at the meeting.
STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said following the meeting “The STUC welcomes our agreement with the Scottish Government on our shared aims and objectives on Skills Utilisation and Poverty and Health Inequalities.
“The MoU and these joint communiqués build on our relationship with the Scottish Government which was developed during the last administration.
“We welcome these communiqués as the first shared statements of intent to improve the utilisation of Scotland’s skills and to eliminate the poverty and health inequalities which blight many Scots and their communities.
“We hope we can build a relationship mature enough to discuss our differences and resolve them, where possible, and continue to work with Government to build on our constructive bilateral relationship to create a wider and more extensive social partnership for Scotland.”
The Memorandum of Understanding, signed in December by STUC President Phil McGarry and First Minister Alex Salmond, set out shared priorities and how the STUC and Government can work together to achieve these. It is available for download
The STUC and Government will meet bi-annually to take forward joint working. The meeting was the first to take place since the signing of the Memorandum. The communiqués agreed at today’s meeting are available for download
