Scottish Trade Unions & Equality:The Way Forward

Tuesday 30 October 2007

Menzies Glasgow Hotel

10.00am – 3.00pm

The STUC’s One Workplace Equal Rights Projects is holding a one-day event to showcase the STUC’s One Workplace Equal Rights Project work and will offer innovative strategies and resources to build equality into the daily business of trade unions and workplaces to prevent the marginalisation of equality and diversity issues. The event will be useful for a wide range of trade union organisations working across all areas and not only equality specialists or officials.

A wide range of STUC affiliated trade unions, representatives from equality organisations and agencies; relevant policy and government officials; community and employer organisations will be in attendance. The event will provide a forum to discuss how the outcomes of the Project can inform future equality policy and practice.

The event will include contributions from Minister for Communities and Sport, Stewart Maxwell MSP, representatives from the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, the STUC, and testimonies from trade union rep and officer project participants on the One Workplace Project across the various project training activities including the action learning/ research programmes, Equality Reps and NHS Diversity Champions. A series of workshops and plenary sessions will follow.

Among the resources and activities that will be showcased at the Conference are:

• The launch of TU Rep Action Learning Group Final Report and Strategic Action Learning Group Report • “One for all?” Theatre Training DVD • STUC One Workplace Equality Award DVD • Bargaining for Equality Toolkit • Trade Union Approaches to Equality – Mapping Study • One Workplace Website.

The event is open for all to attend but as places are limited, please register by Wednesday 24 October 2007 by contacting Liza Greig, Project Administrator, on 0141 337 8135, e-mail: lgreig@stuc.org.uk or visit www.oneworkplace.org.uk
