  • Equality Matters in Business

Through the One Workplace Equal Rights and the Close the Gap projects the STUC has been able to promote equality across all areas of working lives in Scotland.

As a stakeholder in Glasgow Works Action we work to ensure that everyone has equality of opportunity for employment in healthy and safe working environments.

Scottish Enterprise and Highlands & Islands Enterprise have launched Equality Matters in Business (EMB), a pilot project with three key aims:

  • Help Scottish businesses to promote diversity and equality in the workplace
  • Highlight the business opportunities equality policies can bring
  • Help businesses understand their legal obligations

Evidence suggests that businesses gain many benefits from implementing equality and diversity practices, including:

  • improved recruitment and retention
  • a better understanding of their customers
  • gaining competitive advantage through an enhanced local reputation

Investing in equality and diversity can support all of these.

EMB’s Activities

EMB’s activities aimed at promoting the business benefits of diversity to companies throughout Scotland include: • delivering a series of awareness raising workshops on the business benefits of diversity To find out how to book your FREE place click on the attached PDF • delivering a helpline service that enables businesses to access advice on all matters relating to equality and diversity
