STUC Women's Committtee
Formed in 1927 by women trade unionists, some 31 years after the
foundation of the STUC, the Women's Committee has a long and
prestigious history. However, it continues to promote issues that
are important to working women and their families today.
Annual STUC Women's Conference
The Women's Committee holds an annual conference usually in
November. The conference is attended by around 150 women delegates
from the trade unions and trade union councils that are affiliated
to the STUC. These affiliates are able to submit motions for debate
and consideration by the conference. The conference votes on the
motions submitted and also elects women delegates to serve on the
STUC's Women's Committee each year.
The Women's Committee comprises of 16 women and is held
accountable to the annual Women's Conference. The annual work plan
of the Committee is determined following discussions on the motions
agreed at conference, and the priorities of the STUC as a
whole.
