STUC calls for 11th hour amendments to Procurement Bill

Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary, Grahame Smith said. "Today's third reading of the Procurement Reform Bill provides a final opportunity to strengthen provisions on ethical procurement including the requirement on contractors to pay the living wage, to promote equality and introducing protections on blacklisting. The Scottish Government has been too cautious in its approach in areas such as preventing tax-dodging and meeting climate emission reductions through procurement.

Maryhill Community Gathers to Remember those Killed in Plastics Factory Tragedy

The tenth anniversary of the deaths of nine workers in the ICL/Stockline tragedy will take place on Sunday, 11th May and the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) along with Gary Gentles from Community Central Hall, Patricia Ferguson MSP and Councillor Martin McElroy are supporting families affected and helping them develop plans for a commemoration that celebrates the lives of their loved ones.

Responding today’s Labour Market and GDP statistics Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary Grahame Smith said “Today’s figures include some more positive news on the Scottish labour market but confirm that recovery remains very slow. As some focus on the level it is important to stress that the employment rate – a significantly more accurate measure of the health of the labour market - remains fully 3.5% below its pre-recession peak.
